Fascism: It's Here

Fascism has arrived shrieking and lashing out.  As has previously been noted, on day one Trump pardoned the treasonous insurrectionists, most of whom came from white-christian-supremacist groups, historically the pool from which the fascist movement arises.  Plenty of them were quite comfortable advertising the fact.  No sooner had Trump pardoned his fascist militants from prison where they belong, but he also took aim at any and all federal departments and measures that at all served the broader public (unleashing the unelected corporate-fascist Musk as his attack dog in DOGE), providing the capital necessary for his tax-cut gift to the .1% of the billionaires and millionaires.  The capital has to come from somewhere.  That somewhere is the extensive tax increases on the general working public, and that following the taxes that his incomprehensibly idiotic trade war necessitate. This is the modus operandi of the corporate-finance-capitalism under which we live currently, as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. summarized it: "socialism for the rich, rugged free enterprise capitalism for the poor."

In his complete ignorance and his MAGAt minions idiocy, they think that the exporter pays the tax, when in fact it is the importer who pays the tax and after so doing has to raise his or her prices for the commodities imported to cover the extra cost for him or her to import the products.  They also can’t, under oath in Congress, even articulate fundamental features of the Constitution.  Homeland Security Director Kristi Noem couldn’t even describe habeas corpus when questioned in the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.  She described it as “a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country.”   Precisely it’s diametric opposite.  This second MAGAt administration has been packed full of the most unqualified candidates, perhaps of all time.

This is not just a reckless trade war, with all of the above combined, this is the most distilled and blatant form of class war since maybe six decades ago.    

One of the classic features of the fascist assault includes assaulting the judiciary and rendering the courts impotent, forcing them to fall into lockstep.  The MAGAt executive has not only ignored court rulings, even a SCOTUS ruling, but has even warned judges that they may be arrested themselves and has already done so.  Already sitting congress persons and other elected officials have been arrested, and a journalist in Georgia covering the No Kings protest has been arrested and is now facing deportation.  These are all direct assaults on the foundations of Constitutional Law in the United States for the construction of fascism and they must not be allowed to continue.  Further deporting anyone who looks Hispanic, regardless of citizenship or protected status, they deported a citizen to El Salvador, which the SCOTUS ruled the Executive had to bring back, the ruling that has been ignored.  A MAGAt has recently murdered sitting politicians in a streak of political assassinations.

 Trump then decides that he wants to spend hundreds of millions on a military parade for his birthday, a grotesque show of force that is common in dictatorships like the former Soviet Union, the present North Korean dictatorship, China, and elsewhere.  It’s a grotesque display that actually makes the United States look weak.  It has historically only been the weaker states that conduct such spectacles to make themselves look all the stronger, ultimately making them look all the weaker.  The United States has the largest, strongest military on Earth and it doesn’t need spectacle to prove it.  The spectacle actually undermines the military might of the United States.  It is a show of weakness, the internal crumbling of the democratic republic.  

Trump, allowing the international criminal wanted for war crimes by the ICC, Netanyahu, continues his policy of genocide in Gaza, and even allowing Netanyahu to expand this slaughter to Iran, the other greatest military power in the middle east alongside Israel, is suicidal.  Iran has the backing of Russia and China, so for a full-scale war to erupt and the involvement of the United States, this necessarily means a war between the three nations with the largest thermonuclear arsenals in the world, and necessarily means nuclear holocaust.  It has also been reported that were Israel to use thermonuclear weaponry against Iran, Pakistan will return thermonuclear attacks on Israel.  If Trump’s reckless idiocy allows Netanyahu’s genocidal insanity to bring the United States into a war with Iran, the United States will not only lose, but will suffer a humiliating loss, it will make the catastrophic failure in Iraq look like a slap on the wrist.  The risk of nuclear war and thus omnicide are never more probable than were this war allowed to be engaged.  The world is now closer to nuclear holocaust in all of history, these current events make the Cubal missile crisis look like child’s play.  Russia has the largest thermonuclear arsenal in the world and, already being pressed up against the wall in Ukraine, Putin’s all the more likely to engage thermonuclear weaponry rather than risk his and his nations demise. 

This is what fascism looks like.  We must either defeat this blitzkrieg of a fascist assault or watch the United States destroy itself and all of life on Earth with it. 

As Cicero adeptly observed, during the collapse of an empire, its laws become crazier and crazier.  If the above crazed assaults on the United States’ Constitutional Law isn’t proof of this, then nothing is.
